ME to WE
ME to WE is an innovative social enterprise that inspires and enables people to become leaders and agents of change.The students at A.G.S have been participating in their unique volunteer trips and have travelled to Kenya and India to volunteer in communities supported by Me to We and their charity partner Free the children.They contribute to the advancement of ongoing projects – by helping with construction of schools or water wells. They also immerse in the local culture with home visits and customary celebrations and they participate in workshops to develop understanding of local history and issues, as well as gain leadership skills to make a difference on their return home.
ME to WE Trips are about people, connections, learning and self-discovery. They’re also about global communities working together to change the world.These trips broaden the perspectives of the students on the world as they explore a new culture and volunteer on sustainable development projects, while working side-by-side with local communities. Through the experience, students develop necessary skills and cross-cultural competencies while reflecting on cultural activities, volunteering and the connections they build. ME to WE Trips encourage critical thinking and responsibility as a global citizen.
Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox often said that it was the youth who would carry forth his efforts and work towards a world without cancer. Our students take part in the Terry Fox School Run every year raising funds for cancer research, and display solidarity , courage, strength and hope.
Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.
